Business of Fashion – a B2B Fashion Blog and Aggregator – Lands $2.1 Million in Seed Funding

Business of Fashion – founded by former McKinsey consultant Imran Amed – is proving the power of content. TechCrunch reports the site garnered $2.1 million in seed funding from major VCs, including Index Ventures and LVMH (the French luxury conglomerate).

The website currently runs a well-curated blog – fueled by a network of worldwide independent bloggers — as well as aggregating fashion pieces from across the web. Amed plans to use the seed money to experiment with branded events, analytics services and “premium” content.

In other words, the site is looking to become the Business Insider of fashion – a pure-content site as opposed to driving revenue through e-commerce or affiliate marketing.

Fashion blogging is a competitive field, and the site’s monthly audience is currently only in the hundreds of thousands. However, Amed has been able to leverage the brand into some pretty sweet benefits for himself. According to his bio, he was on British GQ’s 2011 list of the “100 Most Influential Men in Britain,” and also has been invited to sit on juries of competitions such as the Austrian Fashion Awards.
