American Express, CEO of J. Crew Invest in Warby Parker’s $41.5 Million Series B Round

Warby Parker is slowly transitioning from trendy glasses-maker to lifestyle brand, with the major investment numbers to prove it. According to The Next Web, the investors of the $41.5 million Series B round include General Catalyst Partners, J. Crew CEO Millard Drexler, and American Express. Drexler is also “formally involved” with the company, a boon for Warby’s retail potential.

The firm has showcased its glasses in pop-up stores across the U.S., but emphasizes that they are focusing on improving their direct-to-consumer business before considering retail.

The company, founded by four friends at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, has also been collaborating with Standard hotels on ‘artist-in-residence’ programs, as well as a seaplane ferry from downtown Manhattan to the Hamptons, according to Dealbook.

Let’s hope we see the Warby Parker-designed ‘Google Glasses’ before they try for seaplane ferries.

Previous investors in the company include Spark Capital, Tiger Global Management, and Menlo Ventures.
