Samwer Brothers Raise $26 Million for Jumia — the ‘Amazon of Africa’

According to TechCrunch, e-commerce startup Jumia has raised $26 million from Summit Ventures. Jumia sells everything from books to home electronics, and currently operates in Nigeria, Egypt and Morocco. The company plans to expand to other countries in the region with the funding money.

If this all seems like déjà vu, it’s because last month, Summit invested $26 million in Linio – the ‘Amazon of Latin America.’ Both Jumia and Linio are children of Rocket Internet, founded by the Samwer brothers – a trio of Oxford-educated Germans who specialize in creating copycat startups in emerging markets.

Previously, they sold a German online auctioneer to eBay, and a European “CityDeal” site to Groupon.

The Winklevoss Twins are literally impotent half-wits compared to the Samwer Brothers.
