Thousands of People Are Trying Out for AOL’s New Anchor Position in Manhattan — Watch the Livestream Here

By 7 a.m. this morning, over 700 people had lined up outside AOL’s Manhattan headquarters to try out for $700-per-day online news anchoring position for AOL’s new ‘CNN killer,’ according to Business Insider.

I wouldn’t have guessed people would be so eager to anchor what will no doubt be HuffPost Live’s snotty little brother, but there have actually been some decently-watchable people try out — and some painful ones.

How do we know this? Because the entire thing is live-streaming on AOL Live’s website, and moving along pretty briskly: check it out here.

According to Valleywag, some of the craziest gaffes so far have included:

  • During word association, one woman’s response to “whistleblower” was “I don’t know what that is.”
  • One guy sang the news of James Gandolfini’s funeral, then responded to “Kim Kardashian” with “Deez nuts.”
  • Another woman said, “terrorist” when asked to respond to the word Iran.

As of this writing, a sassy young lady named Yaya Williams is reading some NBA Draft news and killing it.

Here are details of the tryout:

  • Thursday, June 27 and Friday, June 28
  • 5AM Casting Call opens
  • 10AM Casting Call closes
  • Props encouraged!
  • Please bring a headshot and resume
  • AOL viewers will help decide if you make it as our next AOL Live anchor!
  • *Please note: must be 18 and older to try out.
