Silicon Valley-based VC firm 500 Startups has raised a $44.1 seed funding round, according to VentureBeat.
Apparently the accelerator has invested in close to 600 companies, although partner Christine Tsai tells VentureBeat that “we aren’t changing our name.”
It’s still hard for me to forgive 500 Startups for forcing their last accelerator class to rap in that abominable ‘Thrift Shop’ parody. That said, the company has made a few smart investments since launching in 2011, including TaskRabbit, Twilio, Wildfire and SendGrid, and also has a heavy international focus.
Only 30 companies were admitted to the firm’s upcoming seventh accelerator class, out of over 1,200 applications.
